Event Description

There is a revolutionary new approach in health care that utilizes the foundational principals of modern medicine. A more holistic approach to chronic disease is simple: to treat the person who has the disease instead of treating the disease. Treating the person is quite different from treating the disease. Treating the person means working to shift your “inner pharmacy” to produce a different set of chemicals, which then produce a different set of effects. These chemicals, produced by your own “inner pharmacy,” lead to normal function, as the body controls and maintains its own healthy blood pressure, heart rate, breathing, digestion, immune function, blood sugar, inflammation, and moods.
As a class participant you will have your blood pressure taken 6 times in 3 different postural positions. You will have your zinc and iodine levels checked in addition to checking your oral pH. Your posture will be analyzed while standing still as well as examined while you are walking (gait). Please ask a staff member for health assessment forms to fill out ahead of time. Please do not drink or eat 30 minutes prior to the event. All functional diagnostic results will be given to you on the day of the event.

The following is information relating to what we will be offering you at absolutely no charge on Sunday at Pharmaca in Novato.  This is an amazing way for you to discover the actual underlying causes of your health concerns that no medical doctor you have ever met in your life has been able to discover…..and for free!  The reason that the medical doctor was not able to discover the true causes of y0ur health concerns is because he/she simply did not have the proper training in order to do so.

Hippocrates, the father of modern medicine who lived nearly 1500 years ago said, “The highest good is to find the cause [of the health problem].” What this means is that diagnosis is the most important part of health care. It is said that a physician should spend 80% of their time diagnosing what is imbalanced in their patients and the other 20% of their time should be spent treating. However, in modern health care we tend to see physicians spend 80% of their time treating and only 20% of their time diagnosing. The Hippocratic oath is “First, do no harm.” This means that the primary concern of the health care provider should be not to hurt their patient and the secondary concerns should be with getting them well.

Blood pressure should be taken on BOTH sides of the body because the heart pumps blood to both sides of the body. If there is a blockage or difficulty with a heart valve on the right, it is very difficult, if not impossible to find by taking the blood pressure on the left side only and only in the seated position. Please refer to the blood pressure handouts for more information.

Posture & Gait Analysis Summary

In order to gain a thorough understanding of Gait Analysis one(how a person walks) would need to study functional anatomy, anatomy and biomechanics in a graduate school course for at least 6 months or more. This is an abbreviated summary.
If the patient is found to have all muscles high on one side then this indicates a weak gluteus medius muscle on that side. The gluteus medius muscle relates to the adrenal glands and sex glands and so it is extremely likely that this person is exhausted all of the time and has severe hormonal imbalances. A high shoulder on one side is demonstrative of a blood sugar imbalance. The latissumus dorsi muscle which pulls the shoulder down relates to the pancreas which is the main gland which processes sugar. If both arms are internally rotated while standing with palms facing backwards this indicates thyroid stress because the Teres Minor Muscles which prevent this from happening are related to the Thyroid gland. If a person’s buttocks move to one side or the other when they walk then this shows they are in a “fight or flight” mode and under a great deal of stress and often in a hurry. If a person’s upper body is leaning forward all the time (which is very common) then they are suffering from an undiagnosed heart condition which may possibly be causing them low back pain. We call this “cardiac low-back.” Excessive pronation or supination of the ankles indicates extreme dehydration. Both feet turned outward is common in chronically tired people, vegetarians and vegans.

Zinc, Iodine and Oral pH

These 3 functional tests give tremendous insight into the metabolic cause of a person’s health concerns.
Zinc is an essential mineral found in just about every cell of the human body including the hair. It stimulates the activity of approximately 100 different enzymes and subsequent biochemical reactions, including apoptosis (cell death), hormone release, and nerve impulse transmission. Zinc plays a crucial role in healthy immune function and hormonal balance and regulation as well as sleep and sex. There are large amounts of zinc in male ejaculatory fluid. The highest levels of zinc in the male are found in the prostate. Zinc is needed to activate T-Lymphocytes. It supports normal growth and development during pregnancy, childhood, and adolexcence and is needed for wound healing and DNA synthesis. Most zinc in the Standard American Diet (SAD) comes from oysters, fish, red meat and dark poultry. It is not possible to make stomach acid without zinc. Excessive Iodine, copper, Vanadium, chromium or manganese intake or alcohol use or over exercise or any other type of stress will deplete zinc reserves. Digestive imbalances lead to zinc deficiency and vice versa. Phytates, compounds found in whole grains, breads, cereals, legumes, and other vegetable products, can inhibit zinc absorption and for this reason, vegetarians may require 50% more zinc than non-vegetarians. Known signs of zinc deficiency include poor wound healing, hair loss, premature graying of hair, diarrhea, loss of appetite, taste abnormalities, skin rashes, corneal clouding, and altered libido or mood, and susceptibility to frequent infections due to impaired immune function. Zinc loss may be precipitated by certain antibiotics, specifically tetracycline and quinolones, anticonvulsant drugs, and diuretic use.
The ability to taste zinc is directly proportional to the body’s reserve of the nutrient. For this reason, performing a Zinc Taste Test is a low cost and relatively easy way of assessing gross zinc status. A person with inadequate zinc reserves will be unable to taste a zinc solution, whereas a person with normal zinc levels will find the same zinc solution to be bitter in taste. Again, if within 10 seconds of tasting the solution you report that the solution is tasteless or tastes like water then you are suffering from an extreme zinc deficiency. Often these people will also have white spot(s) on their fingernail(s). A very metallic or slightly bitter taste in just over 10 seconds reveals a moderate need for zinc. A strong bitter taste indicates that zinc status is adequate. Good zinc status is especially common among young people (who do not yet have to pay taxes.) A poor zinc status can be equated to poor digestion….   To repeat, you cannot sleep well at night without zinc as zinc is needed to metabolize melatonin from serotonin. You don’t have much energy without zinc as zinc is needed to metabolize epinephrine from nor-epinephrine (nor-adrenalin). It is not possible to metabolize testosterone without zinc. You cannot have proper pain regulation in the body as zinc is needed to metabolize eicosanoids into good anti-inflammatory fats (Prostaglandin 1 from Omega 6). Note that these fats are also important for proper adrenal function.
Iodine is another mineral which is often deficient in the American diet and its deficiency is also often due to lifestyle stresses. Iodine is also found in most cells of the body. Iodine is necessary for the production of Thyroid hormone. Both active and inactive thyroid hormone are composed of a series of iodine molecules. Iodine is very important for kidney and skin and liver health. Without proper iodine levels a person’s liver is often not able to properly detoxify the rest of the body. The best source of iodine is from fish and there is also quite a bit of iodine in some seaweeds. 60 years ago, goiters used to be very common in the mid-west due to iodine deficiency. To prevent these goiters, they began to iodize the salt at that time. The thyroid gland determines the rate of metabolism and its hormone is very similar to growth hormone. Iodine deficieny leads to depression, weight gain, hair loss, constipation, hot flashes and night sweats, low energy and other maladies. You can love the Iodine Skin Test for its simplicity. When the iodine mark is applied to a patch of skin, that mark should stay on the skin for a minimum of 6 hours. If it disappears any time within the six hours then you are suffering from an extreme iodine deficiency. If the mark stays on your skin for the entire 6 hours and has faded only a little bit at the end of the 6 hours then your iodine levels are likely to be adequate. People who are on Thyroid medication always have low iodine levels – always. And, people with very low iodine levels will often have their iodine skin mark nearly disappear in less than 2 full hours.
The Oral pH test helps to identify the cause of dental carries and also a poorly functioning stomach. 7.4 is the normal oral pH. The oral pH should not be above or below 7.4 by more than .1 point. So, the range should be 7.3 to 7.5. When people are quite acidic, it indicates that their stomach is too alkaline and dysfunctional. People who are very alkaline at over 7.7 or 7.8 are often either vegetarians or very sick – perhaps they have cancer. The oral pH levels are not a very helpful finding when done alone, but are excellent when they are correlated from all of the other findings from a complete and thorough history and physical examination.
