What is functional blood pressure ?
Apr 5th
I am super excited because this Saturday, April 10th from 11 AM to 3 PM I will be doing Functional Blood Pressure testing at Pharmaca Integrative Pharmacy in Mill Valley at 230 East Blithedale Avenue. This is just a quick blog to talk a little bit about what functional blood pressure testing is all about. Additionally, you can see the 6 blood pressure readings that need to be obtained in order to do the test.
Blood Pressure Reading:
Seated: R = / L = /
Standing: R = / L = /
Lying: R = / L = /
Background
A functional blood pressure test gives a true insight into every area of a person’s health; particularly glandular and hormonal health. This blood pressure test gives “subclinical finding.” This means that it shows imbalances and disease processes in the making before they occur. The test focuses on the causes of symptoms rather than the symptoms themselves. According to Hypocrites who is considered to be the father of modern medicine, “The highest good is to find the cause [of the health concen.] The majority of the medical community has not yet caught up to the Applied Kinesiologists and other health care providers who commonly use this method of diagnosis in their examination.
Interpretation
You can easily look up the interpretation commonly used for unilateral seated blood pressure.
The blood pressure from left to right
The blood pressure from Right to Left should be within 10 mm Hg for both systolic and diastolic. If it is not, then it has been found that there is some constriction of one of the heart valves most likely due to emotional upset. Most commonly when this happens, one side will have the systolic blood pressure 10 points higher than the other side. If it is the diastolic pressure that is different from side to side it is much more likely that there is some stress to the persons kidneys
Blood pressure going from seated to standing
Going from seated to standing, the blood pressure should rise a minimum of 4 to 12 points. This makes sense as your heart is having to work harder to pump blood against gravity further through your legs, thus requiring more pressure. It is called “orthostatic hypotension” if the blood pressure fails to rise 4 to 12 points going from seated to standing. There are a number of different explanations for why this could happen. However, the easiest and most simplistic explanation is that the patient suffers from Hypoadrenia if the blood pressure decreases going from seated to standing or if it fails to rise between 4 and 12 points. The patient suffers from Hyperadrenia if the blood pressure rises greater than 20 points going from seated to standing. The more the rise or fall of the blood pressure, the worse the condition. It should be noted that abnormal findings also demonstrate compromise to the Hypothalamic – Pituitary – Adrenal Axis (HPA Axis)
Blood Pressure going from standing to lying down
Going from standing to lying the blood pressure should go down a minimum of a few points. Because the heart no longer needs to pump blood against gravity, the blood pressure should decrease. If the blood pressure stays the same or fails to go down then this is demonstrative of Kidney and Liver stress.
Seriousness of positive findings
Any positive findings for any of these blood pressure tests are of major concern. One should not take these tests lightly. An adrenal, heart, liver, kidney or HPA axis finding can be extremely serious and lead to various tumors, cancers, heart disease or heart attack or liver disease. An adrenal problem always contributes to female hormonal imbalances. The female hormones estrogen (estrone, estriol and Estradiol), progesterone and pregnenolone are all metabolized in the adrenal glands. Other hormones metabolized in the adrenal glands include epinephrine, norepinephrine, corticosterone, aldosterone, 17-OH-Pregnenolone, 17a-OH-progesterone, cortisol, DHEA Androstenediol, Androstenedione and Testosterone.
Thank you for taking this incredibly valuable functional test that will allow you to learn about possible diseases and dysfunctions BEFORE they happen so that you can treat their CAUSE rather than be stuck treating the symptoms with more invasive therapies such as drugs, radiation and surgery.
